Spencer girls basketball falls at home to Athens

SPENCER – Athens overcame a rough game from the free throw line to hold off Spencer 44-38 in a nonconference girls basketball game Monday night at Spencer High School.

The game was tight throughout, with Athens leading 19-17 at halftime and were able to finish off the win despite finishing 13-for-31 at the free throw line. The Bluejays improve to 4-0.

Addison Lavicka scored 15 points and Elizabeth Van Rixel added nine in the win for Athens.

Heavyn Kind led all scorers with 18 points for the Rockets.

Spencer, which was just 4-for-12 at the free throw line as well, falls to 2-1 this season.

Spencer hosts Marshfield Columbus Catholic for a Cloverbelt Conference East Division game Thursday.

Athens will play a Marawood Conference crossover game at Wausau Newman Catholic on Friday.
