Spencer girls basketball outlasts Loyal

LOYAL – The Spencer girls basketball team overcame a poor shooting night by making 17 of 25 free throws and outlasted Loyal 41-35 in a Cloverbelt Conference East Division matchup Tuesday at Loyal High School.

The Rockets were just 12 of 40 from the field by made up for it at the free throw line and earned the road win.

The game was tied 18-18 at halftime before Spencer used a 23-17 advantage in the second half to secure the victory and improve to 15-6 overall and 12-2 in the Cloverbelt East. The Rockets secure no worse than second place in the conference standings.

Amber Becker had 15 points and Claudia Krause scored eight for the Rockets.

Loyal was held to 14-for-41 shooting and were only 5-for-12 at the free throw line in the loss, dropping to 10-11 this season and 8-6 in the Cloverbelt East.

Tylee Brecht and Natasha Tellock each had six points to lead the Greyhounds.

Spencer hosts Granton on Thursday before playing at Colby on Friday in Cloverbelt East action. Loyal hosts Columbus Catholic on Friday.
