Marshfield girls soccer splits two at Wausau West Quad

WAUSAU – The Marshfield girls soccer team split a pair of games at the Wausau West Quad on Saturday, defeating Superior 7-0 before losing to Chippewa Falls 4-0.

Abby Ongna scored an early goal off an assists from Avery Weister to get the Tigers off an running against Superior.

Marshfield scored three more times before halftime as Lauren Homolka, Sophia Gruenling and Grace Taylor added goals. Ongna, Weister and Taylor scored in the second half to finish off the shutout win.

A short-handed Marshfield squad ran out of gas against Chippewa Falls and was shut out.

“As a coach, I was so proud of the team and the fight we gave Chippewa Falls as they played they starters to the final horn,” Marshfield coach Steve Lindner said. “We had eight varsity players out and six starters didn’t play, but the players who did really fought to the end of the game. We handled their midfield attacks well and turned away many attacks throughout the game.”

Goalie Ella Allar had seven saves against Superior and five against Chippewa Falls.

Marshfield (8-6) will play at Wausau East on Tuesday at 5 p.m.
