Second-half surges pushes Marshfield girls soccer past Wausau East

WAUSAU – The Marshfield girls soccer team held Wausau East without a shot on goal and defeated the Lumberjacks 3-0 in a Wisconsin Valley Conference match Tuesday at East High School.

Following a scoreless first half, Avery Weister scored off an assist from Abby Ongna 6:29 into the second half to break the ice and give Marshfield a 1-0 lead.

Sophia Gruenling added a goal on a penalty kick in the 67th minute and Weister scored again, this time off an assist from Lauren Homolka with 15:06 to go in the game to finish off the scoring for the Tigers (9-6, 5-3 Wisconsin Valley Conference).

The shutout is the Tigers’ eighth this season.
