Auburndale softball defeats Marathon, falls to Newman Catholic in Marawood split twinbill

AUBURNDALE – The Auburndale softball team split a pair of Marawood Conference South Division games on Tuesday at Auburndale High School, defeating Marathon 6-2 and losing to Wausau Newman Catholic 8-2.

In the first game against Marathon, Ashlyn Grimm tossed a complete game, allowing two runs, six hits and six walks, while striking out eight.

Erin Griesbach had a three-run home run in a four-run second inning and finished with four RBI in the game for the Eagles.

Samathan Stanton had two hits and scored twice, and Mya Krings had a double and two runs scored for Auburndale.

Newman Catholic pitcher Ashley Jankowski struck out four and did not walk a batter to defeat Auburndale in the Eagles’ second game.

Auburndale pitchers combined for 12 walks in the loss. Hope Schulte had two hits and an RBI for the Eagles (6-7, 3-6 Marawood South).

Auburndale will play at Marathon (3-13, 2-6 Marawood South) and Newman Catholic (5-6, 3-5 Marawood South) will host Wisconsin Rapids Assumption on Thursday.
