Marshfield earns nine state meet berths at WIAA Division 1 track sectional

MARSHFIELD – Marshfield earned nine state berths with top-three finishes at the WIAA Division 1 track & field sectional on Thursday at Heiting Community Stadium at Marshfield High School.

Lizzie Hanson won the 100-meter hurdles in 16.18 seconds for the Tigers’ lone sectional title, but six other individuals qualified for state in seven events, as did a boys relay team.

The top three in each event at the sectional will compete at the 2022 WIAA State Track & Field Championships at the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse on June 3-4.

The Marshfield girls had six other state qualifiers as Dani Minsaas was second in the high jump (5 feet, 3 inches), Sophie Nikolay was second in the pole vault (9-9), Michaela Dick took second in the 300 hurdles (47.73), Olivia Page was third in the 200 (26.44), and Aubri Brown was third in the discus (126-2) and shot put (37-1).

The Marshfield boys had one individual and a relay team grab third-place finishes to earn slots at the state meet.

Graham Lonsdale was third in the 800 in 1:58.69, and he teamed with Henry Hoerneman, Jesse Messmann and James Ketterer to take third in the 3,200 relay in 8:03.89.
