Marshfield Junior Legion rolls past Merrill at U-17 regional

MERRILL – The Marshfield Junior Legion baseball team kept its season alive with a dominating 18-1 win over Merrill at the U-17 regional tournament on Friday at Athletic Park.

Marshfield (14-15) will play another elimination game of the double-elimination tournament on Saturday at 2:30 p.m.

Marshfield scored five times in the top of the first inning and put the game away via the 10-run rule with an eight-run sixth.

Henry Zaleski allowed just three hits and one run in a six-inning complete game effort for the Junior Devils. He struck out three and did not walk a batter in the win.

Aden Cherney went 4-for-4 and scored four times, and Mitchell Schade had a single, a double and drove in five runs for Marshfield.

Chase Robinson added three hits and two RBI, Brady Schmidt and Sloan Welch each drove in two runs as well, and Adam Gilbertson had two hits for the Junior Devils, which had 15 hits in all.
