Marshfield Junior Legion topples Wausau to advance to final day of U-17 regional

MERRILL – The Marshfield Junior Legion baseball team won its third-straight elimination game at the U-17 regional, beating Wausau 12-9 on Sunday afternoon to keep its season alive.

Marshfield (16-15) will play Wisconsin Rapids at 5 p.m. Monday with the winner advancing to the regional championship game against Wausau at 7:30 p.m. The regional champ moves on to the U-17 Wisconsin Junior Legion State Tournament at Plover, which begins Friday.

The Junior Devils pounded out 13 hits in the win, three from Madden Prybylski, who also had two RBI and two runs scored.

Sloan Welch picked up the pitching win, allowing six runs in five innings with six strikeouts, and also was 2-for-2 with three RBI for Marshfield.

Adam Gilbertson and Ian Brown each had two hits, and Gilbertson, Vance Kielman and Brady Schmidt each drove in a pair of runs in the win for the Devils.
