WAUSAU – The Marshfield Post 54 Legion baseball team remained undefeated at the Class AAA regional tournament with an 11-1 whitewashing of D.C. Everest on Thursday afternoon at Athletic Park.
The Blue Devils (20-12) are one of two remaining undefeated teams left in the double-elimination tournament and will take on Plover at 4 p.m. Friday. The winner of that game moves into the championship round on Saturday, while the loser will play again at 7 p.m. against the winner of Friday’s first game between Wisconsin Rapids and Wausau.
The regional champion qualifies for the Wisconsin State American Legion Baseball Tournament on July 26-30 at Sheboygan.
Braeden Schueller threw a five-inning complete game to earn the win for Marshfield, allowing just one run and five hits while striking out three.
The top four in the Marshfield lineup combined to go 9-for-11 with eight RBI and seven runs scored.
Brock Bennington had three hits and scored three runs, Cole Timmler went 3-for-3 with three RBI and two runs scored, Riley Bauman had a double and three RBI, and Nick Urban had two hits and two RBI for the Blue Devils.
Timmler had an RBI single and Ben Dietsche delivered a sacrifice fly to score another as Marshfield took a 2-1 lead in the first inning.
The Blue Devils poured it on from there, scoring four times in the second inning on an RBI single by Timmler, a sac fly by Bauman, and two bases loaded walks.
Marshfield put it away with a five-run third as Timmler had yet another RBI single, Bauman drove in two with a double, and Urban followed with a two-run single.
