MARSHFIELD – The Marshfield football team used a number of big plays, on offense, defense and special teams, and found the win column for the first time this season with a 42-8 nonconference victory over Oconto Falls on Friday night at Heiting Community Stadium.

Marshfield quarterback Trevor Foemmel completed all five passes he attempted for 107 yards and two scores, and added a 55-yard touchdown run in the victory as the Tigers improve to 1-2 this season.

Eli Colby started the scoring with a 28-yard touchdown run late in the first quarter and Marshfield rolled from there.

Foemmel hit Brooks Hinson on a short pass on the second play of the second quarter and the sophomore receiver broke a tackle and raced down the right sideline for a 59-yard score.

After Oconto Falls turned the ball over downs, the Tigers went 54 yards in seven plays as Foemmel connected with Luke LeMoine on a jump ball in the back right corner of the end zone to push Marshfield’s lead to 21-0 at halftime.

“There weren’t any penalties, no jumping offsides or things like that tonight,” Marshfield coach Denny Goettl said. “Trevor was relaxed, our line was relaxed, or defense was relaxed – instead of being uptight and making mistakes, and afraid of making mistakes. I hope we can build off that.”

The Tigers quickly put the game away in the third quarter as Foemmel ran 55 yards for a score of the second play of the half.

On the ensuing kickoff, the Oconto Falls receiver misjudged the ball and fumbled, and Garrett Willuweit picked up the ball on the run and raced 19 yards for another touchdown, extending Marshfield’s advantage to 35-0.

After an 8-yard touchdown run by Mason Seidel early in the third quarter for the Tigers, Oconto Falls put up its only score of the game on a 1-yard TD run by quarterback Carter Hill with just 2:30 to go.

Marshfield finished with 342 total yards, 235 on the ground on just 21 carries. Seidl led the way with 84 yards on only seven carries.

The Tigers head into their Valley Football Association opener with some momentum. Marshfield will host D.C. Everest on Sept. 9.
