Columbus Catholic soccer holds off McDonell/Regis for ninth win in a row

MARSHFIELD – The Marshfield Columbus Catholic soccer team won its ninth-straight game as it held off Chippewa Falls McDonell/Eau Claire Regis 4-3 in a nonconference match Tuesday at Griese Park.

Alex Edwards had a hat trick in the first half as the Dons built a 3-1 lead.

The teams exchanged goals, with Edwards scoring again for Columbus, before McDonell/Regis closed to within one with 8:45 to go.

The Dons were able to hold on and are now 10-1 this season.

Lucas Kreklau had five saves in goal for Columbus Catholic.

McDonell/Regis (7-3) outshot the Dons 17-6 overall and 8-4 on goal.

The Dons host Amherst for a Central Wisconsin Conference game Thursday at 5 p.m. at Griese Park.
