Spencer girls basketball team wins opener

ATHENS – Krystal Weier scored 15 points to lead the Spencer girls basketball team to a 47-30 nonconference win over Athens in its season opener on Monday at Athens High School.

Kyleigh Hebert added 12 points for the Rockets, who busted out to a 20-6 lead after the first quarter and led the rest of the way.

Spencer put the game away with a 21-15 advantage in the second half.

The Rockets open their Cloverbelt Conference East Division season against defending champion Neillsville on Thursday at home. The game is scheduled to begin at 7:30 p.m. and MarshfieldAreaSports.com will have complete coverage of the pivotal early-season matchup.
