POYNETTE – The Stratford softball team exploded for two huge innings and earned a pair of wins at the Poynette Invitational on Saturday at Poynette High School.
The Tigers had a 10-run fourth inning in an 11-1 win over Stanley-Boyd, and broke open a tie game with a nine-run fifth and went on to defeat Manawa 11-3. Stratford is now 6-3 this season.
In the win over Stanley-Boyd, Tessa Berg had three hits, Tria Tubbs homered and drove in three, and Emma Roeper had two hits and an RBI for the Tigers.
Gracie Schmidt had three hits and three RBI, and Kressa Wenzel and Ava Weix each had two hits and two RBI for Stratford in the victory over Manawa.
Laney Pankratz picked up the pitching wins in both games. She struck out six against Stanley-Boyd without a walk, and had 10 strikeouts with one walk against Manawa.
Stratford is scheduled to play at Wausau Newman Catholic on Monday, weather permitting.
