MARATHON – Marathon clinched no worse than a share of the Marawood Conference South Division baseball championship with a 2-1 win over Auburndale on Tuesday at Marathon High School.

After an RBI single by Aden Cherney in the third inning for Auburndale, Marathon scored twice in the fourth on RBI singles by Cody Radtke and Daniel Laqua to take the lead and the score held the rest of the game.

Cherney was the tough-luck losing pitcher for the Eagles (8-5, 6-3 Marawood South), allowing six hits and one walk in a complete-game effort. He finished with five strikeouts.

Grant Warren struck out six in six innings and Radtke picked up the save as he worked around two walks in the seventh for the Raiders (11-2, 8-1 Marawood South).

The teams will play each other again Thursday at Auburndale to wrap up their Marawood South seasons.
