Stratford softball earns extra-inning walk-off win over Edgar

STRATFORD – Laney Pankratz singled home Lexie Christopherson with the winning run in the bottom of the ninth inning to lift the Stratford softball team to a 2-1 win over Edgar in a Marawood Conference South Division game Tuesday at Hilgemann Field.

Pankratz pitched a gem for the Tigers, scattering seven hits while allowing two walks and striking out 11.

Makayla Wirkus led off the game with a double and scored on an error to give Edgar a quick 1-0 lead.

Stratford came back with a run of its own in the second on an RBI single by Pankratz and the score remained 1-1 until the Tigers won it in the ninth.

Gracie Schmidt and Pankratz each had two hits for Stratford (11-5, 4-3 Marawood South). Edgar drops to 6-8 and 4-5 in the conference.

The two teams will play again Thursday at Edgar.
