Marshfield girls basketball wins Wisconsin Valley opener at SPASH

STEVENS POINT – The Marshfield girls basketball team won its Wisconsin Valley Conference opener, beating Stevens Point 42-37 on Friday night at Stevens Point Area Senior High.

The Tigers improve to 2-1 overall and are tied with D.C. Everest, one-half game behind Wisconsin Rapids in the WVC standings.

Marshfield led 18-4 after the first quarter and 22-14 at halftime before SPASH stormed back.

The Panthers outscored Marshfield 17-8 in the fourth quarter but it wasn’t enough in the end.

Taylor Varsho led Marshfield with 18 points, including a pair of 3-pointers. Leah Ripp added a season-high 13 points and six rebounds.

Marshfield plays a nonconference game at Eau Claire North on Tuesday.
