MARSHFIELD – The Marshfield Columbus Catholic boys basketball team used a hot-shooting first half from 3-point land, opened up a double-digit lead and held on the rest of the way to post a 73-55 win over Colby in a battle of undefeated Cloverbelt Conference East Division squads Friday night at Columbus Catholic High School.

The Dons (10-1, 5-0 Cloverbelt East) had a peculiar scoring line in the first half as they were just 2-for-14 from 2-point range, but made 10 of 14 3-pointers. Columbus Catholic was hitting from all corners of the court as Colby tried a zone defense that was effective against driving players to the basket, but left the outside open.

Charlie Moore and Alex Edwards each connected on three 3-pointers in the first half, where the Dons used a 17-6 run to take a 23-11 lead.

Following a 3-pointer from Colby’s Jaxon Polivka, Moore hit a long ball with 6:27 to go before halftime and the Dons led by double digits the rest of the game.

Edwards’ third 3-pointer gave Columbus Catholic a 36-25 lead at halftime.

The Dons pushed the lead to as much as 21 after a 3-pointer by Blake Jakobi and a three-point play by Edwards, who scored 12 points off the bench.

Columbus responded to an 8-0 run by Colby with six-straight points of its own and were able to cruise the final six minutes.

Moore scored 21 points and Jakobi added 20, combining for nine 3-pointers, to lead the Dons, who hit 14 shots from long range in the win.

Polivka had 14 points and Landon Steinman added 13 for Colby (4-5, 4-1 Cloverbelt East). Click here to view the Cloverbelt East boys basketball standings
