GRANTON – Krystal Weier and Paige Johnson each had two hits and Johnson drove in three runs to lead Spencer to a 7-6 win over Loyal in a battle of two of the top teams in the Cloverbelt Conference East Division softball standings.

The game was played at Granton due to wet field conditions in Spencer and Loyal.

Spencer scored three runs in the first inning, only to see Loyal return the favor with three in the third to tie the game.

The Rockets rallied with three runs over the next two innings and pulled ahead for good.

Loyal scored twice in the seventh but Spencer held off the Greyhounds for the victory.

Spencer had lost to Loyal 16-6 on April 18 and ties the Greyhounds at 3-1 in the standings.

“This was a huge conference win for us,” Spencer coach Jason Gorst said. “It feels good to beat the team that clobbered you the week before. We played much better this time around.”

Spencer hosts Owen-Withee for a Cloverbelt East doubleheader on Tuesday.
