MARSHFIELD – The Marshfield softball team swept a Wisconsin Valley Conference doubleheader from Merrill on Thursday at Madison Field.
The Tigers used a four-run fourth inning to win Game 1 7-3 and plated four runs in the top of the eighth inning to take the nightcap 6-2 to even their season record at 7-7 this season.
Katelyn Sternweis picked up the pitching win in both games for Marshfield (4-2 WVC). She went the distance in the opener, striking out eight, and pitched four shutout innings of relief in Game 2 with six strikeouts.
Shylah Brogan and Madison Kraus each had two hits and an RBI, and Lexi Fischer had two RBI in the Game 1 win for the Tigers.
In Game 2, Lillian Griesbach had an RBI single and Arianna Pugh knocked in two with a single in the top of the eighth to help propel Marshfield to the win. Griesbach and Ashlyn Barwick each had three hits for the Tigers.
Marshfield will play another doubleheader Friday as it hosts Holmen for two at Madison Field starting at 3:30 p.m.
