Everest Merchants rally to top Marshfield Chaparrals

MARSHFIELD – A four-run eighth inning lifted the Everest Merchants to a 5-4 win over the Marshfield Chaparrals baseball team Wednesday night at Jack Hackman Field.

Marshfield led 4-0 through five innings after scoring a pair of runs in the first and fifth innings.

Everest scored a single run in the sixth against Marshfield starting pitcher Jake Long, then teed off against the Chaps’ reliever Mason Nesbitt in the eighth, scoring four times (three earned) one just one hit.

Joe Waksmonski pitched four hitless innings to earn the win and slammed the door in the eighth and ninth for the Merchants (9-6).

Marshfield lost its third straight game and falls to 11-7 on the season.

Chuck Brehm led the Chaparrals offense by going 3-for-4 with an RBI.

Marshfield is back in action Thursday at Abbotsford and will play in a tournament at Menasha on Friday and Saturday.
