Marshfield freshman, sophomore football teams win again

The Marshfield freshman and sophomore football teams each remain undefeated after posting victories Thursday.

The Marshfield freshman team beat Wausau West 34-12, while the sophomores edged Oshkosh West 24-19.

In the freshman game, Caleb Alexander led the Tigers with 180 yards rushing on 13 carries, scoring on runs of 30 and 84 yards.

Mitch ZIllman added an 8-yard touchdown run and Derek Coffren threw touchdown passes of 21 yards to Kegan Fassler and 30 yards to Tanner Boson. Jack Donahue kicked four extra points in the win.

Marshfield’s top tacklers were Zillman, Devan Wrege and Devon Klement.

The Marshfield sophomores got started early when Jeff Allison returned the opening kickoff 90 yards for a touchdown.

Matt Oestreich tossed a 15-yard touchdown pass to Brad Krueger and Colton Zahradka threw a 15-yard scoring pass to Jeff Allison. Brad Krueger made all three extra point attempts and added a 30-yard field goal in the fourth quarter.

Mitch Ott, Zach Meissner and Matt Rickman were the Tigers’ leading tacklers.

Craig Zalizniak, Jordan Watkins and Meissner each recovered fumbles for Marshfield.

The Marshfield freshman team plays at Wausau East at 4:30 p.m. Thursday, while the sophomores travel to Fond du Lac for a game on Sept. 10 at 11 a.m.
