WAUSAU – Auburndale senior Danica Harrison showed she will be someone to be reckoned with when the Division 3 cross country postseason rolls around.
Harrison placed fourth among 188 runners in the Division 2-3 race – and was the first Division 3 runner to cross the finish line – on Saturday at the Smiley Invitational at American Legion Golf Course.
Harrison finished the race in 15:30.18, 30 seconds behind winner Rachel Sudbury of Tomahawk.
Auburndale finished 14th in the team standings with 363 points, as Abby Bauer finished 32nd in 16:49.
“Danica ran a great race to win the Division 3 race, and Luke Haas resisted going out with the fast pace set by the boys at the start of the race, and moved up finish fourth in the boys Division 3 race,” Auburndale coach Jim Johnson said. “Both the boys and girls team continued to improve by placing sixth and fifth, respectively, (in Division 3) against a very strong field.”
Spencer was 24th with 690 points, led by Samantha Fuehrer, who was 71st in 17:50.
Wausau West took the Division 1 Large team title, with Marshfield finishing ninth. River Falls took first in the Division 1 Small standings and Little Chute won the Division 2-3 team title.
Rebecca Voss led Marshfield, taking 12th in Division 1 Large and 21st overall in Division 1, finishing in 15:46.
Marshfield was 10th in the Division 1 Large boys standings as Adam Voss took 19th (28th overall) in 17:18. Nolan Redetzke was 27th in 17:33.
D.C. Everest (Division 1 Large), River Falls (Division 1 Small) and Nekoosa/Port Edwards (Division 2-3) were the team champions.
