Marathon sweeps doubleheader from Auburndale softball

MARATHON – Marathon had five innings where it scored four runs or more and blew past Auburndale in a Marawood Conference South Division softball doubleheader 11-3 and 15-5 on Monday.

In the first game, Auburndale had nine hits but mustered only three runs.

Camille Swart, Heather Nigh and Kayla Gotz each had two hits for Auburndale, and Mikayla Jankowski had two RBIs in the loss.

Marathon scored 14 runs from the second through fourth innings of Game 2, pounding out 11 hits and taking advantage of 11 Auburndale walks.

Kendra Kundinger scored twice, and Swart and Gotz each had two hits and two RBIs for the Apaches.

Both teams are 2-2 overall and in the Marawood Conference.

Auburndale hosts Pittsville on Thursday.
