MARSHFIELD – The Marshfield Clinic Post 54 Senior American Legion baseball team wrapped up its regular season with a 14-8 win over Wausau on Thursday night at Jack Hackman Field, clinching the Wisconsin Valley Legion League title.

Marshfield, winners of 13 of its past 15 games, finishes the regular season with a 21-5 record and an 8-2 mark in the WVLL. The Blue Devils open play in the Class AAA regional on Tuesday at 1 p.m. against Stevens Point. The regional will be played at Hackman Field from Tuesday through Friday with a berth in the state tournament on the line.

Marshfield is also the host of the Class AAA State Tournament, which will be held July 26-30. If the Blue Devils were to win the regional, the second-place team would advance to state.

Marshfield scored four runs in the bottom of the first inning, but fell behind 6-4 after Wausau scored five in the third.

The Blue Devils tied it in the bottom of the inning and pushed ahead with two in the fourth, four in the sixth, and three more in the seventh.

Trevor Schwecke earned the win in relief of Jake Brueggen, who went just 2 2/3 innings.

Donahue had a double, two singles and drove in four runs for Marshfield. He now has 46 RBIs this season, tying the club record set in 2013 by Daulton Varsho.

Schwecke added two hits, scored four runs and drove in two, and Braden Bohman scored three times for the Blue Devils.
