WAUSAU – Nina Hashimoto scored twice and the Marshfield defense did the rest as the Tigers knocked off Wausau West 2-1 in a Wisconsin Valley Conference girls soccer game Tuesday.

After West took a 1-0 lead on a goal from Alexa Sheehan at the 23:14 mark, Hashimoto tied the game with a goal in the 35th minute.

Hashimoto added another at the 70:42 mark and the Tigers held on from there.

Marshfield is now 3-8-1 overall and 2-3 in the Wisconsin Valley Conference, while West falls to 2-6 and 2-3 in the conference.

“After falling behind we took it upon ourselves to step up the pace and play with a little aggression,” Marshfield coach Steve Lindner said. “Even though we had a few mour fouls than usuaul, that is not a bad thing – as long as the fouls are being assertive and playing hard.

“Nina and Maddie Haessly are playing well on the top and between the two of them, teams need to be aware of both as they create many opportuntities for each other as they draw the defensive attention.”

Andrea Carolfi had four saves and Wendy Rodriguez had three in goal for Marshfield.

The Tigers are now off until next Tuesday, May 9, when they host Stevens Point at 5 p.m. at Griese Park.
