Stratford boys, girls track teams finish second at Tomahawk Hatchet Invitational

TOMAHAWK – Both the Stratford boys and girls had multiple champions as each team finished second at the Tomahawk Hatchet Track & Field Invitational on Tuesday at Tomahawk High School.

Northland Pines won both team titles, with the Stratford boys taking second with 147 points and the girls finishing runner-up with 133 points.

The Stratford boys had five individuals and one relay team capture seven meet titles.

A.J. Schoenfuss won the 400 meters in 53.93 seconds, Cade Lehman took first in both the 800 (2:08.43) and 1,600 (4:48.44), Damon Weix won the 110 hurdles (18.08), Kyler Haupt finished first in the long jump (18 feet, nine inches), and Jacob Danen won the triple jump (38-10).

James Heeg, Danen, David Marquardt and Schoenfuss teamed to win the 1,600 relay in 3:42.36 for the Tigers.

On the girls side, Stratford’s Macie Schillinger won a pair of races, taking first in the 400 in 1:04.36 and the 800 in 2:41.99. Angellia Verdone also won 1,600 in 6:07.83.

Schillinger, Callie Lehman, Heather Greenberg and Alexis Lappe won the 1,600 relay in 4:31.09, and Makayla Krall, Lappe, Lehman and Keyarra Dahl took first in the 400 relay in 55.57 seconds for Stratford.

Stratford will compete in the Marawood Conference South Division Meet Monday at Auburndale. The Tigers’ postseason begins with a WIAA Division 2 regional at Colby on May 22 and sectional at Medford on May 25. The WIAA State Track & Field Championships are June 2-3 at the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse.
