Columbus Catholic soccer ties at McDonell/Regis

CHIPPEWA FALLS – The Marshfield Columbus Catholic soccer team saw its five-game winning streak snapped with a 2-2 tie to Chippewa Falls McDonell/Eau Claire Regis on Tuesday in a nonconference game at Casper Park.

The Dons outshot McDonell/Regis 14-7 and held leads at 1-0 and 2-1, but couldn’t hold on for the win. Columbus is now 6-2-1 and McDonell/Regis moves to 4-1-3.

Evan Dieringer scored at the 6:59 mark to give Columbus the early lead before Austin Erickson eid the game for McDonell/Regis with a penalty kick in the 19th minute.

The score remained tied until Nadim Torbey connected for the Dons 8:23 into the second half, and Columbus held on to the one-goal lead for more than 30 minutes, but McDonell/Regis was again able to tie it when John Wampler scored at the 84:52 mark. Neither team was able to muster another goal over the final 5 minutes.

Kellen Heinzen had five saves in goal for the Dons.

Columbus Catholic hosts Tri-County in a Central Wisconsin Conference game at 5 p.m. Thursday at Griese Park.
