Northland Pines Co-op ousts Wisconsin Valley Union in overtime to win WIAA girls hockey regional final

STEVENS POINT – Lilly Beitler scored on a power play 5:29 into overtime to lead the Northland Pines Co-op to a 3-2 win over Wisconsin Valley Union in a WIAA girls hockey regional final Thursday at the Ice Hawks Arena.

Wisconsin Valley came back from a 2-0 deficit, tying the game on third-period goals by Madelynn Bradley and Jenna Jones.

However, the Eagles were able to hold Wisconsin Valley scoreless the rest of regulation and into overtime, when Northland Pines took advantage of a penalty on the Union and Beitler put in the game-winner.

The No. 5 seed Northland Pines Co-op (7-12) moves on to a sectional semifinal at No. 1 seed Superior/Northwestern (20-3) on Tuesday.

Wisconsin Valley Union finishes its season with a 9-16 record.
