Marshfield ends up fifth as Wisconsin Valley Conference Boys Golf Tournament concludes

STEVENS POINT – Stevens Point shot a 316 to win the seventh and final leg of the Wisconsin Valley Conference Boys Golf Tournament on Friday at its home course of Stevens Point Country Club.

The win, the Panthers’ sixth in the seven-event series, secured the overall WVC championship for Stevens Point.

Josh Berres led Marshfield with an 83, tying for 10th place, and Marshfield finished in fifth with a team score of 347. The Tigers ended up fifth overall in the tournament.

Michael Josephson shot an 86, Evan Schneider had an 88 and Craig Serchen and Brandon Brown each had 91 for the Tigers.

Josephson ended up eighth in the overall tournament standings.

Matt Sanquist of Wausau West shot a 79 to tie for sixth and ended up winning the overall individual championship.

Larry Wetzel of D.C. Everest and Ryan Hofmeister of Stevens Point tied for medalist honors on Friday, shooting 73s. Wetzel ended up third overall for the tournament.

Marshfield will compete at the WIAA Division 1 regional at Merrill Country Club on Tuesday.
