WAUSAU – The University of Wisconsin-Marshfield/Wood County women’s and men’s basketball teams each suffered tough losses at UW-Marathon County on Wednesday night.

The UW-Marshfield/WC women’s team lost a 106-81 shootout to undefeated Marathon County, while the Marauders men dropped a tough 52-51 decision.

Paige Albrecht and Ashley Pongratz each scored 25 points to lead the Marauders women. Marissa Draxler added 11 points and seven assists, Heather Adrian had 10 points, Pongratz grabbed 10 rebounds and Bailey Klieforth had six assists. UW-Marshfield is now 10-2 this season.

“We didn’t quit,” Marshfield coach Rhonda Keding said. “We would get the lead down to single digits and Marathon would get on a hot shooting streak and pull away. The ladies hung in there strong. None of these ladies should hang their heads.”

Jake Scheppler scored 20 points and grabbed 10 rebounds, and Brandon Herr added 13 points for the Marauders men, who fall to 6-4 overall and 3-2 in the Wisconsin Collegiate Conference.

Both teams are now off for winter break and return to action Jan. 11 at UW-Richland Center.
