Spencer girls basketball routs Augusta for second straight win

SPENCER – Tara Matter scored 15 points and grabbed eight rebounds, and Kyleigh Hebert had 13 points and eight rebounds to lead the Spencer girls basketball team to a 56-33 win over Augusta in a Cloverbelt Conference East Division game Thursday night at Spencer High School.

Spencer (2-1 overall and Cloverbelt East) used a 19-4 run in the second quarter to pull away from the Beavers (2-3, 1-3 Cloverbelt East).

The Rockets led 9-7 after the first quarter before blowing the game open and taking a 28-11 halftime lead. Spencer continued to build its lead in the third quarter, outscoring Augusta 16-9 to move ahead 44-20.

Hebert made 7 of 9 free throws and Matter was 5 of 6 from the line to lift the Rockets.

Krystal Weier added 11 points and eight rebounds, and Aubrie Bissonette chipped in eight points and four rebounds for Spencer. The Rockets held a 43-21 rebounding advantage and held the Beavers to 9 of 32 shooting from the field.

Allie Nelson had 20 points for Augusta.

Spencer plays at Marshfield Columbus Catholic on Tuesday.
