Auburndale girls basketball rallies to down Marathon

MARATHON – Auburndale outscored Marathon 10-5 in the decisive fourth quarter leading to a 32-28 win in a Marawood Conference South Division girls basketball game Friday night at Auburndale High School.

The win is the Apaches’ fourth in a row and improves their record to 7-3 overall and 4-2 in the Marawood South. Marathon falls to 5-6 and 1-5 in the conference.

Marathon led 9-2 after one quarter and 15-12 at halftime before the Apaches tied up the game at 22-22 after three quarters.

Nicole Nikolay scored 15 points and grabbed 13 rebounds, Sam Karl added eight points and Melanie Brandl chipped in with seven as the three accounted for 30 of the Apaches’ 32 points.

Rebeccae Reiche had six points and eight rebounds to lead Marathon in each category.

Auburndale plays a nonconference game at Nekoosa on Monday and returns to Marawood South action next Thursday at Stratford.
