Wisconsin Rapids scores four times in first period, routs Marshfield boys hockey 6-2

MARSHFIELD – Wisconsin Rapids poured in four goals in a 3½-minute stretch of the first period, two coming short-handed, and went on to defeat Marshfield 6-2 in a Wisconsin Valley Conference boys hockey game Tuesday at the Marshfield Youth Ice Recreation Center.

Matt Edwards scored at the 9:46 mark of the first period to start the run that included a pair of goals from Zach Campbell and ended with a goal by Caleb Schroer at the 13:17 mark. The final two came in a 54-second span when Rapids was serving a penalty.

Rapids (11-7, 6-3 Wisconsin Valley Conference) made it 5-0 with a goal by Seth Hillila in the second period.

Marshfield scored twice in third. Zach Leggon scored an unassisted goal and Zac Alboreo assisted Bo Howard on a power play goal with just under 3 minutes remaining.

Marshfield goalie Mac Alboreo had 27 saves.

The Tigers (8-8, 2-5 WVC) play at Stevens Point on Thursday.
