MARATHON – The Stratford boys basketball team knocked off Marathon 54-42 on Thursday night in a Marawood Conference South Division game at Marathon High School.
The win gives Stratford the sweep in the Marawood season series over Marathon, which has tied or outright won the Marawood South the past three seasons.
The Tigers improve to 12-3 overall and 8-1 in the conference, opening up a two-game lead over Marathon and Wisconsin Rapids Assumption for second place in the standings. They remain one game behind first-place and undefeated Auburndale, which won again Thursday at Edgar.
Marathon falls to 12-4 and 6-3 in the conference.
The Tigers host Northland Lutheran on Tuesday.
