Marshfield girls basketball team stays unbeaten in WVC with win at Merrill

MERRILL – The Marshfield girls basketball team continued its roll through the Wisconsin Valley Conference, beating Merrill 48-37 on Friday night at Merrill High School.

The win is the Tigers’ 53rd straight in the WVC and improves their record to 10-3 and 6-0 in the conference, maintaining their one-game lead over Stevens Point in the standings. The win was Marshfield coach Heidi Michaelis 199th in her 11-year career at the school.

Merrill falls to 7-7 and 1-5 in the WVC.

Taylor Varsho scored 23 points, grabbed five rebounds and dished out five assists in the win. She made 9 of 13 free throws.

Tiffany Stargardt added eight points and seven rebounds and Ellie Fehrenbach had eight points and nine rebounds for the Tigers.

Marshfield hosts Wausau West on Tuesday and plays at Stevens Point with sole possession of first place on the line next Friday.
