Auburndale girls basketball team outlasts Marathon for Marawood South win

AUBURNDALE – Auburndale used a 13-7 fourth quarter to hold off Marathon 37-29 in a Marawood Conference South Division girls basketball game Tuesday night at Auburndale High School.

The game was tight throughout, with Auburndale holding an 18-14 halftime lead. The Raiders cut the lead to 24-22 after three quarters before the Apaches were able to pull away for their second straight win.

Auburndale improves 13-7 and 9-4 in the Marawood South, while Marathon drops to 8-11 and 4-9 in the conference.

Mikayla Jankowski, Nicole Nikolay and Emma Steines each scored seven points to lead a balanced scoring attack for Auburndale. Nikolay added a team-high seven rebounds and made 3 of 4 free throws in the victory.

Kayla Stanley led Marathon with 11 points.

Auburndale hosts Stratford on Thursday in its Marawood South season finale.
