JANESVILLE – The University of Wisconsin-Marshfield/Wood County women’s basketball team made it a point to stop UW-Rock County’s top scorer, Lindsey Oliver, and it did.

The Marauders held Oliver, who scored 30 points or more in five straight games, to just 17 and went on to beat UW-Rock County 77-59 in a Wisconsin Collegiate Conference playoff game Wednesday night.

Paige Albrecht scored 27 points and had six steals, Marissa Draxler drilled six 3-pointers and finished with 24 points, and Bailey Klieforth had 14 rebounds for the Marauders (16-8), who know advance to the WCC State Tournament at UW-Marathon County in Wausau beginning Saturday.

The Marauders will take on UW-Waukesha in a state semifinal Saturday. The championship game is Sunday.

“These girls bust their butts off and they deserve it,” Marauders coach Rhonda Keding said. “Tonight’s game, I’m going to give all the credit to Heather Adrian. We had two days of practice to get ready for UW-Rock. All we had to do is concentrate on shutting (Oliver) down. We played man-to-man defense, but with Heather face guarding. She didn’t leave Oliver open.”

“I am so proud of these ladies. Teamwork and working hard goes a long ways and it’s showing. My philosophy all year is one game at a time. We need to stay that way. So whoever we go up against on Saturday we just need to be ready.”
