RICHLAND CENTER – The University of Wisconsin-Marshfield/Wood County men’s basketball team’s season ended with a frustrating 74-73 loss to UW-Richland in a Wisconsin Collegiate Conference playoff game Wednesday.

Marshfield (12-9) trailed 39-31 at halftime before mounting a comeback.

The Marauders took a 73-71 lead late in the half before Richland converted a three-point play with 1.4 seconds left to go up by one.

Marshfield called timeout and Jesse Bejcek collected a long inbounds pass and missed a jump shot. Jake Scheppler rebounded and made a basket, but time had already expired.

“We played well and it was a great college basketball game,” Marshfield coach Ron Wilczek said. “We unfortunately just came up a little short. It’s a tough way to end the season.”

Scheppler scored 24 points, Leo Braun added 19 points and Bejcek had 12 points and 11 rebounds for the Marauders.
