MARSHFIELD – The Marshfield softball team opened its season with a 6-0 loss to Tomah in a nonconference game Monday at the Marshfield Fairgrounds.

Marshfield had five hits but couldn’t mount a rally in losing its opener.

Kaitlyn Jozik made her pitching debut for Marshfield and took the loss, giving up four walks, six hits and four runs in three innings.

Breanna Breu had two of Marshfield’s five hits.

Skylar Koel earned the win for Tomah. She struck out six and didn’t walk a batter.

“It was an OK opening game for us,” Marshfield coach Mike Voss. “We’re a pretty young team and we made some mistakes. We only had two errors, but we had some mental mistakes.”

Marshfield opens its Wisconsin Valley Conference season with a pair of road games next week. The Tigers play at Wisconsin Rapids on April 10 and at Merrill on April 13.
