AUBURNDALE – Liz Breu scored 11 of her team-high 13 points in the second half to lead the Auburndale girls basketball team to a 36-30 win over Marathon in its Marawood Conference South Division finale at Auburndale High School.
Breu had three field goals and her teammates combined to make 7 of 9 free throws in the fourth quarter to help the Apaches hold on and clinch third place in the South. Auburndale will play at Chequamegon in the Marawood North-South crossover third-place game on Monday.
The game was tight throughout. Auburndale led 13-12 at halftime and 23-20 after three quarters before the strong finish. The Apaches won for the 11th time in their last 13 games to improve to 15-6 overall and finish 10-4 in the South Division.
Alexandria Boehm had 12 points to lead Marathon (11-10, 6-8 Marawood South).
