Auburndale girls basketball wins opener over Nekoosa

AUBURNDALE – Auburndale outscored Nekoosa by eight points in the first quarter and held on the rest of the way, beating the Papermakers 46-32 in a nonconference girls basketball game Tuesday at Auburndale High School.

The game was the 2012-13 season opener for both teams.

Nicole Nikolay led a balanced scoring attack for the Apaches with 13 points. She also had a team-high six rebounds.

Eight different Apaches scored in the victory. Mikayla Jankowski added seven points and four rebounds, and Shannon Yahnke had six for Auburndale.

Auburndale outscored Nekoosa in each quarter to preserve its early lead.

Lexi Brost, Desirae Schuh and Kendra Marcoux each had seven points for Nekoosa.

Auburndale opens its Marawood Conference South Division schedule next Tuesday at Edgar.
