Austin Hawkins scores 29 as Auburndale boys basketball survives against Wausau Newman Catholic

WAUSAU – Austin Hawkins scored 29 points and grabbed eight rebounds to help Auburndale to a hard-fought 52-50 win over Wausau Newman Catholic in a Marawood Conference South Division boys basketball game Thursday night at Newman Catholic High School.

Hawkins made 13 of 17 shots from the field and his 29 points gives the senior 999 in his career.

Blake Anderson added 12 points and four assists, and Isaac Castellano had six assists for the Apaches (5-0, 4-0 Marawood South.

Wausau Newman falls to 1-6, 1-3 in the conference.

“Newman played very well,” Auburndale coach Chad Weinfurter said. “We were lucky to pull this one out. Blake and Austin stepped up for us.”

Auburndale trailed 39-37 after Newman outscored the Apaches 17-7 in the third quarter, but came back to pull out the win.
