Augusta edges Spencer girls basketball in overtime

AUGUSTA – The Spencer girls basketball overcame a four-point deficit to start the fourth quarter and forced overtime, but fell to Augusta 43-41 in a Cloverbelt Conference East Division game Friday night at Augusta High School.

Spencer falls to 3-3 overall and 2-3 in the Cloverbelt East, while Augusta moves to 4-3 and 4-1 in the conference.

Tara Matter made 12 of 14 free throws and scored a game-high 21 points for Spencer. She also ripped down 18 rebounds as the Rockets held a 56-26 advantage on the boards.

Dani Nelson had 20 points and Amber Herrick added nine points and nine rebounds for the Beavers.

Spencer was again hurt by poor shooting, making just 13 of 55 shots from the field.
