Wausau West boys hockey stays unbeaten in Wisconsin Valley Conference with win over Marshfield

WAUSAU – Wausau West remained undefeated and Marshfield winless in the Wisconsin Valley Conference boys hockey standings after the Warriors won 6-1 on Thursday night at Marathon Park.

West improves to 11-3-1 overall and 7-0 in the WVC, one-half game ahead of Stevens Point (7-1). Marshfield drops to 5-14-1 and 0-8 in the conference.

Zach Leggon scored first for Marshfield, netting the only goal of the first period. However, that was all the Tigers would get past West goalie Sam Wiegert, who had 28 saves.

Zach Peterson scored twice and Cale Bowman, Tanner Gould, Andrew Lee and Justin Zahn had goals for West over the final two period as the Warriors won going away.

Brad Krueger had 20 saves for the Warriors.

Marshfield hosts Wausau East on Jan. 31. That game will be broadcast on WDLB-AM 1450 and wdlbwosq.com with pregame starting at 6:45 p.m.
