MADISON – Marshfield sophomore Mitch Hertel is making the most of his second trip to the WIAA State Individual Wrestling Tournament.

Hertel won both a first-round match and a quarterfinal match at the state meet on Thursday to reach the Division 1 138-pound state semifinals.

Hertel defeated Brody Fitzpatrick 2-0 in triple overtime, then shutout Tyler Turriff of De Pere 5-0 in the quarterfinals to advance to the semis.

Hertel (31-7) will take on Kyle Hinners (32-6) of Milton in a semifinal match at approximately 7:30 p.m. Friday night at the Kohl Center. Alex Blaney (46-1) of Bay Port wrestles Jake Cain (50-1) of Middleton in the other 138-pound semifinal. The winners meet in the state championship match on Saturday night.
