MERRILL – Marshfield senior Keiron Howlett won three events and placed second in another to help the Marshfield boys track team to a third-place finish at the 2014 Wisconsin Valley Conference Outdoor Track Meet on Tuesday at Merrill High School.
Howlett won the triple jump (43 feet, 9 inches), the long jump (23-2) and the 300 hurdles (39.27 seconds) to grab Marshfield’s lone victories at the meet. Howlett was also second in the 110 hurdles (14.87).
Also placing second for Marshfield was Matt Oestreich in both the triple jump (43-4) and the long jump (21-2) behind Howlett, and Brad Krueger in the pole vault (13-6).
Jacob Bauer was third in the high jump (6-2) for the Tigers.
Stevens Point won the boys team title with 183.5 points, with D.C. Everest second with 133.5 and Marshfield third with 128.5.
The Marshfield girls placed fifth out of the seven teams with 72 points. Wausau West won the team title with 180 points.
Martha Kupfer had the only event win for the Tigers, taking first in the 400 (59.28). She also placed third in the 200 (27.05) and fourth in the triple jump (34-8).
Marshfield had second-place finishes from Maria Brix in the pole vault (9-0) and Susan Omoba in the high jump (5-0), Rebecca Voss was third in the 800 (2:23.91) and fourth in the 1,600 (5:21.14), and Yasmeena Ougayour was fourth in the shot put (34-5) and fifth in the discus (99-0).
Marshfield will compete at the WIAA Division 1 regional on May 27 at Wausau West.
