MARSHFIELD – Stevens Point scored seven unanswered goals, five coming in the second half, to defeat Marshfield 8-1 in a Wisconsin Valley Conference girls soccer game Thursday at Griese Park.

Jennifer Hoerter scored just 3:04 into the game for Stevens Point (11-5, 9-2 Wisconsin Valley Conference).

Marshfield’s Darian Molter tied the game at the 11:12 mark before the Panthers took control.

Abby Bohanski gave the Panthers the lead for good with a goal at the 17:03 mark and Hoerter added another score 6:19 before halftime.

Bohanski scored three of Stevens Point’s five second-half goals.

Marshfield had 10 shots on goal but only got the one past SPASH goalie Shayna Molski.

“We played very inspired soccer in the first half, trailing only 3-1, but SPASH dominated us in the second half,” Marshfield coach Steve Lindner said. “I was proud how we came back to tie thigns up at the 11-minute mark and the rest of the half we played very well, but the second half we allowed SPASH to win 50-50 balls and let things get away.”

Marshfield is now 8-5-2 overall and 4-5 in conference play. The Tigers play at Wisconsin Rapids on Tuesday.
