MARSHFIELD – Stevens Point wrapped up a share of its 17th straight Wisconsin Valley Conference softball title with a 14-2 win over Marshfield on Thursday at Central Wisconsin Fairgrounds.

Stevens Point scored six runs in the top of the first inning on its way to the victory. The Panthers, who hit three home runs in the win, are 21-5 and finish 11-1 in the WVC. Marshfield drops to 9-14 and ends the Valley season with a 4-8 record.

Lexi Dupee had a double and Jessi Lyon had a triple for the Tigers, who only had three hits against SPASH pitcher Aubrey Drohner.

“We got off to a tough start with Point scoring six in the top of the first inning, but then settled down on the defensive side, for the most part,” Marshfield coach Mike Voss said. “Offenisvely, we did a good job making contact, only striking out three times, unfortunately we were not able to get many balls to fall in for hits.”

Marshfield hosts La Crosse Logan in a nonconference doubleheader Friday to end its regular-season schedule. The Tigers will play a WIAA Division 1 regional semifinal at Rhinelander on Tuesday.
