Columbus Catholic shuts out Northland Lutheran, advances to Division 4 baseball sectional

MARSHFIELD – The Marshfield Columbus Catholic baseball team advanced to the sectional tournament with a resounding 6-0 victory over Northland Lutheran/Wisconsin Valley Lutheran on Friday in a WIAA Division 4 regional final at Jack Hackman Field.

Jeremy Binder tossed a complete-game shutout, striking out four, walking one and allowing just four hits for the Dons. He also added a pair of RBIs.

The game was scoreless until the fourth when the Dons (10-11) scored twice to take the lead. Columbus added four runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to put the game away.

Columbus will take on Pittsville (15-5) in a Division 4 sectional semifinal at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Tigerton. The winner moves on the sectional championship game at 4 p.m. and will play for a berth in the 2014 WIAA State Spring Baseball Tournament in Appleton on June 17-19.
