Auburndale loses in ninth to Edgar

AUBURNDALE – Edgar scored two runs in the top of the ninth inning and Dalton Lehman retried Auburndale in the bottom of the inning as the Wildcats won 5-3 in a Marawood Conference South Division baseball game Monday at Auburndale High School.

Edgar scored twice in the first inning against Auburndale pitcher Austin Hawkins, but the Apaches starter settled down after that and allowed his team to catch up.

Trae Hilgert knocked in a pair of runs with a hit in the fifth inning to tie the game 2-2.

Edgar scored once in the top of the seventh, but Auburndale rallied to tie the game on an RBI single by Troy Kollross.

Hawkins allowed five hits and seven walks, striking out four and entered the ninth inning before giving up a run and was lifted for Rhys Wahleithner, who allowed another to give the Wildcats a 5-3 lead.

Lehman struck out five in two innings in relief of Jarrett Mueller (10 strikeouts, three walks) to earn the win for Edgar (1-4, 1-2 Marawood South).

Auburndale (2-4, 1-2 Marawood South) plays at Marathon on Thursday.
